Two Counties, One River

Tree Removal in Montgomery covers a village that straddles both the Fox River and a county line. Montgomery lies in Kane and Kendall counties, in parts of four townships, and sits on both banks of the river south of Aurora. It was settled in the 1830s, incorporated in 1858 and stayed small for a century, with just 773 residents in 1950. Then it boomed: 5,471 people in 2000, 18,438 in 2010 and 20,262 in 2020. That history leaves two very different kinds of yards.

Old village lots near the river

The original village grew around the river, mills and later factories like Lyon Metal, founded in 1904. Homes in these older blocks often have very large trees, such as cottonwoods, silver maples, box elders and oaks, some of them growing on or near the riverbank. These trees can be massive, and their soft wood breaks easily. Removals near the water need a careful plan for where pieces fall and how equipment reaches them without damaging banks or lawns.

Newer subdivisions

Most of Montgomery's housing went up after 2000 on former farmland. Trees in those yards are younger, but by now they are big enough to crowd houses, lift sidewalks and block views. Ash trees planted in that era have mostly died from emerald ash borer, and dead ones that were never removed get more brittle every year. Census QuickFacts shows 79.3% of homes are owner-occupied and 96.0% of residents lived in the same house a year earlier, so most of these trees are now the responsibility of the families who first moved in.

A young village

Montgomery has a median age of about 34, and 28.5% of residents are under 18, one of the higher shares in the area. Many calls we get here are about yard safety:

  • A dead limb over a swing set or play area
  • A leaning tree near where kids wait for the bus
  • A split ornamental tree in the front yard
  • A stump that is a trip hazard in the lawn

We prioritize anything that could fall on people or the house.

Storm season

Kane and Kendall counties see strong summer thunderstorms, and the Fox Valley has been hit by serious tornadoes, including the 1990 storm that touched down near Oswego just south of Montgomery. After a storm, keep away from downed lines and call the utility first. Once lines are safe, we can remove fallen or hanging trees.

Grinding and cleanup

We grind stumps below grade so you can reseed or replant. In newer subdivisions with irrigation systems, let us know where sprinkler lines run. Public utilities are marked through JULIE before we grind.

Commercial and industrial edges

Montgomery has a working side, from the Caterpillar plant that has built wheel loaders on its southern border since 1959 to older industrial sites near the river. Homes next to these properties sometimes have overgrown fence-line trees, volunteer box elders and cottonwoods that grew up untended. When one of those trees overhangs your yard, the first step is to confirm whose side the trunk is on. We can help you see where it stands.

Montgomery Questions

Do you remove trees on the riverbank in Montgomery?

We remove trees on private riverbank property. Work near the water needs careful rigging so debris stays out of the river, and if any permits apply to work on the bank, we will flag that during the estimate.

My dead ash still looks solid. Is it safe to leave?

Dead ash dries out and becomes brittle, often faster than it looks. The longer it stands, the more likely it is to drop limbs and the harder it is to remove safely. We recommend removing it soon.

Can you grind a stump in a yard with sprinklers?

Yes. Mark or tell us where the sprinkler heads and lines run, and we will work around them. Public lines are located through JULIE before grinding.
